Zack Snyder Transforming ‘High School Musical’ Star Vanessa Hudgens Into A ‘Sucker Punch’ Badass

Director Zack Snyder, the eye-popping filmmaker behind “300” and “Watchmen,” has hired none other than Vanessa Hudgens to star in his next action flick, “Sucker Punch.” But without any real action-hero experience, was it just a matter of assuming the singing/dancing “High School Musical” star can do anything that’s physically demanding if she’s already twirled around a dance floor with Troy Bolton?

“No, I didn’t even look at it that way at first,” Snyder explained, echoing Hudgens’ own excitement for the film about a group of institutionalized young girls using fantasy to escape. “She rehearsed, she did the audition for the scene. I wasn’t sure at first – [the casting people] were like ‘Oh, Vanessa’s coming’ and I was ‘Oh, okay – that sounds cool’ but I didn’t know what to think.”

“Then I saw the tape and I literally went ‘Wow, she’s good,’” Snyder recalled. “She’s really good. Then I talked to her about what she’d have to do.”

What Hudgens has to do is join co-stars Emily Browning, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung and Abbie Cornish in intense physical training. And then put her “HSM” past behind her as she kicks some ass, King Leonidas-style.

“You’re going to see her shooting machine guns, fighting, beating the sh-t out of people,” Snyder, who has Blu-ray releases coming for the action-packed “Watchmen” and “300” in the weeks to come, revealed. “It’s funny – we sat her down for her physical evaluation, and she was really athletic. She’s a dancer, so all the choreography is gonna be fun for her.”

“It’ll allow her to stretch herself and do whatever she wants, and not be too exposed by the movie – but also, on the other hand, do things that people have never seen her do,” he added, saying that since Hudgens isn’t the film’s main star, she’ll have enough freedom to experiment a bit. “She has a big part, but she’s not the center of the movie.”

It also didn’t hurt Hudgens that Snyder knew casting her would make him, like, the coolest dad ever. “My daughter is about to turn 16… I have another daughter who’s 14; Eli is 12 and Autumn is 12,” the filmmaker said with a grin. “They love ‘High School Musical.’ They try and be cool about [their dad hanging out with Vanessa]; they try and be like ‘Yeah, whatever.’ But the truth is: They’re really into it.” Shooting for “Sucker Punch” will start soon, with a 2011 release currently in Snyder’s sights.

Vanessa Hudgens was spotted getting her nails done on April 27, 2009. Seen at the Garden Nail Salon in Studio City, the newly announced Beastly lead wore a comfortable grey top with one side off her shoulder, tight jeans and ugg boots. We’re getting more confirmation on Beastly. ET has just released an article on Beastly:

ET breaks casting news! Vanessa Hudgens is setting out to prove that true beauty comes from within.

CBS Films — which is currently producing ‘Crowley’ with Harrison Ford, Keri Russell, Brendan Fraser and John Crowley — has announced its latest project with a female superstar in the lead. Following ‘The Back-Up Plan’ with Jennifer Lopez and ‘My Fair Lady’ with Keira Knightley, ‘Beastly’ is a modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast, with Vanessa playing the role of the fair maiden.

Set in Manhattan, the movie’s “Beast” is a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. When he ditches a date, the yet-to-be cast character turns out to be a witch who curses him to become everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell.

The film will shoot in Montreal in summer/fall 2009

Looks like Vanessa Hudgens may have another shaggy-haired hottie in her life.

I just got word that 19-year-old British actor Alex Pettyfer is in talks to costar with Hudgens in the upcoming Beastly.

It was announced this morning that Hudgens has been cast in director Daniel Barnz’s modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast, based on Alex Finn’s young adult novel of the same name.

Funny enough, Hudgens’ real-life boyfriend, Zac Efron, was reportedly once a top contender for Beastly’s male lead.

Pettyfer is a child model turned actor, whose credits include playing teen spy Alex Rider in Stormbreaker and acting in Wild Child opposite Emma Roberts. He most recently appeared in an ad campaign for U.K. luxury fashion house Burberry.

Beastly is expected to shoot this summer. Hudgens will then film director Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.

Vanessa Hudgens reminds me of a younger dark-haired Kate Moss, minus the numerous drug scandals.

She’s always caught in the act of shopping with her hair thrown in a messy bun. It’s genius! Hudgens, who has starred in “Thirteen” and the “High School Musical” movies, is a lass who seems to have been born with a great understanding of how style works.
The dark beauty is a complete cross between rocker chic and Bohemian babe. I can’t quite figure out which category to place her in. One thing about the Neutrogena model I like is she carries the most unique bags and doesn’t fall for the typical “it” bag of the season. Hudgens has been spotted on more than one occasion with a fabulous gray fringe hobo by JJ Winters. Whether Hudgens is running around LA in aviators or ripped black jeans, she knows just how to look pulled together.
Newcomers in fashion come and go, but these ladies are stars that will be in fashion for years to come.

These young and fresh beauties have so much to offer on screen and off. They may not abide by every fashion rule, but that’s only because they create their own rules to follow. And that’s the sign of a true fashionista.
