Having done so much for ‘High School Musical’ and vice-versa, Vanessa Hudgens needs a new venue to focus on. As she looks over numerous scripts and projects, she decided to take on a project where she’s part of the cast and not the lead. At the same time, she infuses some of her musical skills in the film so that her fans are too disappointed. In her latest film, ‘Bandslam,’ Hudgens stars along Alyson Michalka, Gaelen Connell, Lisa Kudrow, Scott Porter, Tim Jo, Ryan Donowho, Elvy Yost, Lisa Chung, and Charlie Saxton.

When teenager Will Burton (Connell) moves to New Jersey with his mom due to her new job, he finds that rock-n-roll rules the scene at his new school. Perpetually a misfit, Will strikes up a friendship with like-minded outsider Sa5m (the 5 is silent) (Hudgens). They are both surprised when the school’s “it” girl, Charlotte (Michalka) recruits Will to help assemble a band to compete in “Bandslam,” a battle of the bands that is “Texas High School Football BIG.” For the first time in his life, Will finds he is uniquely suited to not only participate in something, but to truly make a difference.

In speaking to Blackfilm.com, Hudgens talks about her character, her favorite bands, and her future films.

Here’s an interview of Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka by Manny. Thought you guys might wanna check it out:

First of, I love “Bandslam.” I didn’t know what to expect walking in, and I was clapping like a true fan walking out!

From the production company that gave us “Twilight,” Summit Entertainment continues to delight this summer (“The Hurt Locker” is also from Summit, and one of the best films this year).

Gaelan Connell stars as Will Burton, a high school student with extensive knowledge in music. When Will and his mom Karen (Lisa Kudrow) move to New Jersey, his musical dreams come true.

Will, together with the school’s most popular girl, Charlotte (Alyson Michalka of Aly & AJ), assemble a fledgling rock band. Now, they much compete against the best of the best in the biggest event of the year, a battle of the bands. Bandslam!

But first, Will must profess his true love for Sa5m (the 5 is silent), a quirky young girl played sweetly by “High School Musical’s” Vanessa Hudgens. Oh, and like a die-hard rock fan, Will tells his whole story to David Bowie via email.

I credit the film’s awesomeness () to director Todd Graff (“Camp”). Graff understands music and kids and knows how to blend them well. Graff co-wrote the script with Josh A. Cagan who came up with the story.

“Bandslam” opens August 14th, so make sure you watch it! And “Twilight” fans, you’ll get to see the new trailer for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” with “Bandslam.”

I did my portion of Bandslam promotion by making a new layout for Vanessa-Hudgens.ORG featuring Vanessa as Sa5m in Bandslam, which will premiere tonight. I hope you guys like it and please COMMENT on the site’s new layout. I know it’s a style you’ve seen around (credits to Claire and Angelic for those design ideas) but I hope you’ll like it.

Edit: About a comment, the previous layout of the site featuring the InStyle Magazines photoshoots will still be back sometime after the movie is released. Or will be available with this layout. But so far, I hope you guys like the layout I did for Bandslam.
